Chinese Businessman Gao Feng Accused of $300K Bribe to Lawmakers to Cover Up Torture Case

Montserrado County Representative Yekeh Kolubah has accused members of the House of Representatives of accepting a $300,000 bribe from Chinese businessman Gao Feng to manipulate legal proceedings in the Momoh David torture case.

Kolubah alleged that Gao Feng, also known as “The Real Minister,” orchestrated the scheme to influence the case despite ongoing court proceedings.

Sources indicate that the alleged plot involves fabricating claims to initiate deportation proceedings against Chinese national Michael Shio, reportedly as part of a business rivalry rather than genuine legal concerns.

The lawmaker condemned his colleagues for what he described as an attempt to exploit the case for personal gain.

He criticized the legislative majority bloc for convening what he called an “illegal” session to discuss the matter, despite full knowledge of the actual circumstances surrounding David’s injuries.

“You people are eating money when you know that the Chinese man never harmed that young man. You and the family are hiding the truth, but we will expose you,” Kolubah declared during a live press conference in Monrovia.

A medical report from ELWA Hospital has cast serious doubts on the torture allegations, suggesting a coordinated smear campaign allegedly led by former Deputy Information Minister Eugene Fahngon and Gao Feng.

The report contradicts claims that Shio poured hot oil on David, instead attributing his injuries to a fire incident that occurred days later. This finding further undermines the accusations against Shio and raises concerns about the integrity of the case.

Kolubah also accused Fahngon of personally receiving $500,000 from Gao Feng, with $300,000 allegedly distributed among lawmakers to influence their stance.

These claims surface amid ongoing controversies surrounding Gao Feng, who was fined $18 million in 2024 by Liberia’s Ministry of Mines and Energy for illegal mining activities.
