Montserrado County District #10 Representative Yekeh Kolubah has accused House Speaker Richard Nagbe Koon of ordering the forced break-in of his vehicle at the Capitol Building, resulting in the alleged theft of USD 25,000 and 2 million Liberian dollars. The lawmaker also claims that his Dell laptop and iPhone were taken during the incident.
According to Rep. Kolubah, his vehicle was parked at the Capitol when it was forcibly entered under Speaker Koon’s directive. He has threatened legal action if the Liberia National Police (LNP) investigation does not yield a satisfactory outcome.
Additionally, he warned of retaliatory action, stating he would damage the Speaker’s vehicle should he fail to receive redress through the legal system.
The incident has drawn public outrage, with many questioning why authorities opted for a forced entry rather than a procedural approach such as towing the vehicle. After the break-in, Kolubah’s vehicle was eventually removed from the Speaker’s parking space, but not before he reported the loss of cash and personal items.
In response, the Liberia National Police confirmed that two officers from its Police Support Unit (PSU), Sergeant Sam C. F. Karbor and Chief Inspector Frank P. Banda, have been recalled and placed under investigation at the LNP’s Professional Standards Division.
LNP spokesperson Cecelia Clarke stated that the institution remains committed to upholding law and order while ensuring accountability within its ranks.
