Monrovia – Montserrado County District #10 Representative Yekeh Kolubah has responded to recent allegations linking him and several lawmakers to the arson attack on the Capitol Building, describing the claims as politically motivated and based on misinformation.
Speaking to journalists on Thursday, Rep. Kolubah confirmed that he had phone conversations with Representatives Abu Bana Kamara and Jacob Debee prior to the incident but firmly denied any involvement in a plot to burn down the Capitol.
“The talks were about getting people to protect us, not to burn the Capitol,” Kolubah clarified.
According to Rep. Kolubah, some individuals allegedly connected to the National Security Agency (NSA) were introduced by members of the majority bloc under the guise of providing protection. He stated that he was suspicious from the beginning and believed it to be a setup.
“I told Hon. Debee this was a setup. Every time Ofori one of the men allegedly involved tried to come to me, I avoided him,” Kolubah recounted. “They claimed they could offer us protection if we gave them money. That’s how Ofori, Garin, and another guy were brought in.”
Kolubah said he gave $200 to Hon. Debee but expressed his distrust. “I told him I don’t trust these people. You brought them, so you deal with them.”
He further alleged that the individuals brought forward were planted to entrap him and his colleagues, insisting the police had no credible evidence linking them to the crime. “The LNP has no evidence. It’s the same guys they sent who are now providing information,” Kolubah said, calling on the Liberia National Police (LNP) to make their evidence public.
He questioned the official narrative and President Boakai’s earlier remarks that “hooligans” were behind the fire, suggesting instead that internal political actors were orchestrating events behind the scenes.
“From that night, Hon. Kamara kept calling me I didn’t answer. I knew something was wrong,” he added.
Kolubah’s comments follow the recent leak of an audio recording allegedly involving him, Rep. Abu Kamara, and Rep. Jacob Debee. The leak has stirred political controversy, with many questioning the motives behind the audio and its timing.
Rep. Kolubah maintains his innocence and is calling for transparency in the ongoing investigation, urging authorities to focus on uncovering the truth rather than pursuing political vendettas.
