William V.S. Tubman University has officially opened its doors for the 2025/2026 academic year, signaling a renewed commitment to academic excellence, institutional resilience, and global collaboration. The announcement was made by Dr. Olu Q. Menjay, President and Chief Executive Officer of the university, during a well-attended convocation ceremony held on campus in Harper, Maryland County.
Addressing faculty, staff, students, and community stakeholders, Dr. Menjay acknowledged the persistent challenges facing the institution but emphasized the administration’s readiness to move forward with determination and available resources.
“Our administration is prepared to work with what we have, and with the strong support of our faculty and staff, we are ready for this new academic year,” Dr. Menjay stated.
Faculty and staff echoed this sentiment, reaffirming their dedication to delivering quality education to the Liberian people, especially in underserved rural regions.
Dr. Menjay extended gratitude to the Government of Liberia, led by President Joseph N. Boakai, for its continued support of Tubman University. He underscored the importance of government backing for the institution’s sustainability and growth, particularly given its location in southeastern Liberia.
“As you know, we are a government-owned institution, and we remain grateful for the support we continue to receive,” he said.
In a major development, Dr. Menjay announced new international partnerships aimed at strengthening the university’s operational capacity.
Institutions such as Mercer University (Georgia), Baylor University (Texas), and Howard Payne University (Texas) have committed to providing surplus logistics and academic materials to Tubman University.
“These universities have committed to shipping surplus logistics and materials to Tubman University as part of our engagement to enhance preparedness for this semester,” he revealed.
The convocation also highlighted the university’s growing global footprint, with seven Tubman University students currently pursuing studies abroad, representing Liberia on the international academic stage.
The event drew a diverse audience, including county officials, faculty, students, and community members, all gathered to mark the beginning of what promises to be a transformative academic year for Tubman University—Liberia’s flagship institution of higher learning in the southeast.
