River Gee Ex-Superintendent Philip Nyenuh Crosses Over to Unity Party, Praises Government for Infrastructural Boom

By: Ben T. C. Brooks

River Gee County | Nov. 27, 2025 | River Gee County Former Superintendent Philip Q. Nyenuh, has officially returned to the ruling Unity Party (UP), citing the government’s ongoing infrastructure boom particularly unprecedented road construction as the key factor behind his decision.

Nyenuh made the announcement during a live phone interview from Monrovia on Voice of River Gee 91.1 FM on November 27, 2025.

He stressed that his political comeback is grounded in “developmental truth,” not in pursuit of personal rewards or a government post.

“I have come back to my Unity Party because of the developmental initiatives, especially the improvements in infrastructure and road construction that we are now seeing,” he said.

“My decision is based on reality, not personal benefit.”

Nyenuh used the interview to clarify his political identity during the CDC-led administration of former President George M. Weah, under which he served for six of Weah’s years in office.

According to him, his loyalty was to the former president as an individual, not to the party’s ideology.

“I was not a Cedecian; I was a Weah-cian,” he remarked. “My support for former President Weah was personal, not partisan.”

He added that the scale and speed of development currently unfolding in the country especially improvements to key road corridors far surpass what the country experienced during his years in the CDC government.

“The kind of development happening now, particularly the roads, we never saw during the Weah government I served,” Nyenuh noted.

The county former superintendent Nyenuh, who also served three years under former President Ellen Johnson Sirleaf during her second term, urged Unity Party stalwarts who drifted away in recent years for whatever reason to kindly return and strengthen the party ahead of Liberia’s next major political season.

He however pledged to campaign “vigorously and unapologetically” for the Unity Party as it prepares to seek reelection in the 2029 general and presidential polls.

Nyenuh’s reentry into the ruling party has already ignited intense debate across River Gee County.

Some residents accuse him of political opportunism, arguing that he benefited from the Weah administration only to turn his back on it once out of office.

One caller, who requested anonymity, voiced the frustration of many CDC-aligned citizens.

“These are people who enjoyed former President George Weah’s resources in this county. But today he says he knows his Unity Party? God has exposed them.”

However, others have welcomed the former superintendent’s political realignment, hailing him as a courageous figure who is willing to speak openly about the county’s development gains under the current administration.

Supporters described him as a “man of truth,” a “realist,” and a “hero of development.” Several Unity Party figures in the county are reportedly organizing a formal program to officially receive him back into the party’s ranks.

Nyenuh’s return adds a fresh layer of intrigue to River Gee’s already shifting political landscape as parties begin quietly positioning themselves for the 2029 elections, other say his decision may influence both local alliances and voter sentiment in one of Liberia’s southeastern battleground counties.

For now, the former superintendent’s move is reshaping political conversations across the county and is likely to remain a focal point of public debate in days to come.
