Management at the RLJ Kendeja Resort is reportedly pressuring employees to publicly deny a recent investigative report that highlights alleged labor rights violations and deteriorating working conditions at the hotel.
The report, published by Verity Newspaper on Wednesday, September 24, 2025, outlines serious claims including delayed salary payments, a toxic workplace culture, and declining staff welfare under the current administration.
Sources within the resort say management has launched an internal campaign encouraging staff to use social media and other platforms to discredit the report.
However, several employees, speaking on condition of anonymity, have rejected the request, calling it dishonest and misleading.
“They told us to go online and say we’ve received our salaries,” one employee said. “But how can I claim I’ve been paid when I haven’t received a dime for two months?”
According to insiders, the challenges reportedly intensified under the leadership of Ghanaian businessman Hnel Appleton, who currently serves as the resort’s Operations Manager.
Though the new management initially promised sweeping reforms, workers say conditions have worsened significantly.

“When Appleton came in, we were hopeful. He talked about making things better. But once they settled in, all the promises disappeared,” a source familiar with the matter said. “The system hasn’t improved, if anything, it’s deteriorated.”
One of the first actions taken by the new leadership was reportedly a mass downsizing of staff, reducing department teams from over 20 workers to as few as five. Management attributed the cuts to financial difficulties brought on by the COVID-19 pandemic.
However, employees say the downsizing has resulted in an overwhelming workload, with fewer staff expected to fulfill the responsibilities of multiple positions, without additional pay or support.
“One person is now doing the job of three. It’s physically and mentally draining,” a worker noted.
Additional complaints include the dismissal of employees without severance, the suspension of medical benefits, and the cancellation of staff appreciation events that were once routine.
Despite the push from management to counter the Verity report, employees appear largely unwilling to comply. Many have reportedly refused to make public statements denying claims they say reflect their lived experience.
As of press time, RLJ Kendeja Resort has not released an official response addressing the allegations made in the report.
