Road Boost-Boakai, Koung Fulfill Promise

The first batch of 285 earth moving machines has arrived in the country, with more than one 130 heavy-duty yellow machines offloaded at the Freeport of Monrovia on Sunday.

The shipment, transported aboard the vessel HJ Singapore, docked at the port at the late morning hours on Sunday, marking what officials describe as a significant boost to the country’s infrastructure and development agenda.

Photographs from the port show long rows of bright yellow heavy equipment lined up along the harbor, attracting the attention of onlookers and port workers. The consignment includes bulldozers, excavators, wheel loaders, motor graders, dump trucks, compactors and backhoe loaders amongst others.

Former Defense Minister and Head of the Special Presidential Committee on the Yellow Machines, Brownie Samukai, confirmed that the delivery represents the first installment of a total of 285 machines expected to be deployed nationwide.

According to him, the equipment will support road construction, public works and other major infrastructure projects across Liberia’s 15 counties.

Samukai disclosed that the government will begin announcing job vacancies this week in connection with the new equipment. He said more than 1,000 people are expected to be employed in various categories, ranging from machine operators to technical and support staff.

The machines will be transported to Careysburg, Montserrado County for storage and inspection before being deployed to the 15 subdivisions (counties) of Liberia.

Additional batches are expected to arrive in the coming weeks to complete the full shipment.

Sunday’s delivery at the Freeport marks a notable moment for Liberia’s infrastructure sector, as authorities intensify efforts to rehabilitate roads, expand urban development and improve connectivity in support of economic growth.
