Voinjama City, Lofa County — The Rural Universities and Colleges Faculty Association of Liberia (RUCFAL) has announced a temporary suspension of its nationwide strike action, which began on September 24, 2025.
In a press statement issued on Friday, RUCFAL said the decision follows what it described as “fruitful negotiations” mediated by the Liberian Senate. The talks, according to the association, led to the submission of key documents to the Ministry of Finance and Development Planning (MFDP) and the Executive for consideration in the 2026 National Budget. The documents address issues of salary and benefit standardization for faculty and staff at public rural tertiary institutions.
“In adherence to the Senate’s request and in good faith toward continued dialogue, RUCFAL hereby declares temporary suspension of the strike action to await the final 2026 budget processing,” the statement read.
The association has instructed all faculty members of rural universities and colleges to resume normal academic activities within five working days, from Monday, November 3 to Friday, November 7, 2025.
RUCFAL expressed appreciation to faculty members nationwide for their solidarity, commitment, and patience during the strike. The association reaffirmed its dedication to fairness, equity, and professional respect for educators serving in Liberia’s rural public higher education system.
It also called on administrators of rural tertiary institutions to ensure a respectful and safe working environment for returning staff, emphasizing cooperation and professionalism as academic activities resume.
“Together, we will continue to strive for a just, professional, and equitable educational system that upholds the dignity and welfare of all,” RUCFAL concluded.
