Schools Risk Closure Over Refusal to Renew Permit in Grand Gedeh County.

By D Abraham Cooper Sr

Education authorities in Grand Gedeh County are calling on private school owners to meet the August 31st deadline for permit renewals or risk institutional closure. Out of 74 private schools in the county, only 24 have registered so far, despite the renewal period opening on August 1st.

Officials warn that schools failing to comply will face penalties. Late fees are set at double the original permit cost, and proprietors or proprietresses who refuse to pay risk school closure and even a possible 90-day jail term.

Authorities also remind newly established schools that they must follow a strict accreditation procedure, beginning with a letter of intent and assessment by education officials. Non-compliance could result in fines and restrictions on operations.

As the August 31st deadline ended Sunday, August 31, 2025, the Ministry of Education is urging all private institutions to complete their registration on time to avoid serious consequences.
