SEGAL and MCC Open Modern Bus Station in Central Monrovia

In a bid to support the ongoing national development and ease the transportation challenges faced by commuters in Monrovia, the Security Expert Guard Agency of Liberia (SEGAL), in collaboration with the Monrovia City Corporation (MCC), has officially dedicated a new, modern bus terminal located in the heart of the city. This bus terminal, designed with the latest infrastructure, promises to bring relief to thousands of commuters mostly students and workers who previously faced difficulties during peak travel times, especially during the rainy season.

The newly inaugurated bus station is the result of a concerted effort by SEGAL, which sees the development as part of their broader Corporate Social Responsibility (CSR) initiative.

According to Joseph Gono, the project manager for the bus terminal, this initiative aims to make a meaningful contribution to the community, addressing transportation bottlenecks in the city. He explained that the terminal is not a standalone project but is the first in a series of similar facilities that will be built in several other locations around Monrovia. “The decision to build this terminal stemmed from the need to address the long-standing transportation issues in this area, particularly during the rainy season when commuters struggle to find vehicles. We hope that this facility will ease these challenges and provide a safe, convenient space for passengers,” Gono stated.

The bus station is strategically located in a school and working zone, making it a central hub for commuters.

As noted by Gono, this location is vital because of its proximity to key areas of Monrovia, like the Ministry of Foreign Affairs, University of Liberia Capitol Hill Campus and Stella Marie Polytechnic University among other entities, making it easily accessible for many people. The terminal has been equipped with modern amenities, including sheltered waiting areas, seating, and designated space space for business, which will significantly reduce stress of on Transit users.

James Brown, a technical specialist from the Monrovia City Corporation, expressed his gratitude to SEGAL for their initiative, commending the partnership between the corporation and the private sector. “The collaboration with SEGAL has been remarkable, and we are grateful for the company’s investment in the community. This project is a testament to how non-governmental organizations and private companies can play a pivotal role in the development of our city and the nation at large,” Brown said. He emphasized the importance of the community’s involvement in maintaining the facility and encouraged users to take ownership of the bus terminal, which would help ensure its longevity. “We believe that when people take pride in public spaces, it encourages further investment from other organizations,” he added.

The bus station’s construction has been welcomed by residents of Monrovia, particularly those living in the vicinity of the new terminal. Emmanuel N. Flomo, the youth chairman of the “God Bless You Community” in Monrovia, expressed his appreciation for the facility, highlighting the significant impact it would have on the daily lives of residents. Flomo explained that the absence of a proper bus terminal had made it difficult for commuters to access transportation during the wet and dry seasons, leading to an overall increase in travel time and frustration. “This terminal will change everything for us. We no longer have to wait for long periods in the heat or rain for buses to come by. It’s a huge improvement for our community, and we are excited about the future,” Flomo remarked.

SEGAL’s security manager, Dave S. Freeman, reassured the public of the company’s commitment to the safety and security of the terminal and the surrounding community. Freeman promised that SEGAL would continue to maintain professionalism and integrity in the discharge of their duties as a security firm. “Our role is not just to safeguard lives and properties but practice professionalism as a security firm,” Freeman affirmed.

Francis Zazay, SEGAL’s Senior Finance Manager, representing Hon. Momo Cyrus, Founder and CEO emphasized that the bus terminal is just the beginning of SEGAL’s efforts to give back to the community. “As a private security firm, we have always believed in positively impacting the society we serve. This project is just the first of many more to come. We are committed to contributing to the growth and development of Liberia,” Zazay said.
