Monrovia – Opposition Leader and Margibi County Senator Nathaniel McGill has sharply criticized the Unity Party (UP) government, accusing it of misleading the public on several sensitive national issues that dominated political debates during the 2023 elections.
Speaking on One-on-One with the CEO on Spoon TV/FM on Sunday, November 23, 2025, McGill said the ruling party falsely accused the former Coalition for Democratic Change (CDC) government of involvement in the deaths of several auditors and the disappearance of three boys in the ELWA Community ~ allegations he said have not been backed by action since the UP came to power.
“Unity Party people lied about CDC killing auditors,” McGill claimed. “They have been in power almost two years now, and no one has been prosecuted. It is the same thing with the three missing boys. Unity Party lied to the Liberian people.”
The senator argued that the lack of arrests or indictments in these cases demonstrates that the accusations were politically motivated and intended to sway the electorate during the 2023 campaign season.
McGill also contrasted former President George Weah’s leadership style with what he described as the divisive posture of the current administration. He said Weah made deliberate efforts to meet opposition leaders and promote peace, while the Unity Party government allegedly permits officials to use public platforms to “insult” opponents.
“President Boakai can’t reconcile the country when his ministers are using government platforms to insult opposition leaders and critics,” McGill said, questioning the administration’s commitment to national unity.
In another sharp criticism, McGill took aim at the government’s dealings with Oranto Petroleum, dismissing the company’s chairman, Nigerian businessman Arthur Eze, as a “BM-419.” He accused Oranto of previously exploiting Liberia’s resources and warned that re-engaging the company would be detrimental to the country.
“The Oranto oil deal is bad. Arthur Eze is a BM-419. Oranto stole more than US$200 million from the Liberian people, and the Rescue Government is bringing Oranto back to rob the Liberian people again,” McGill alleged. “I don’t support the Oranto deal.”
The senator’s remarks come amid heightened political tension as the Boakai administration continues to defend its governance record against growing opposition criticism.
