Senate Pro-Tempore Karnga-Lawrence Wants Rule of Law Upheld

The Pro-Tempore of the Liberian Senate has made a clarion call, admonishing that the rule of law be upheld.

The lawmaker believes that upholding the rule of law is a fundamental principle necessary for a state to maintain and build its peace and stability.

Senator Nyonblee Karnga-Lawrence, the Senate Pro-Tempore of Liberia, underscored the critical importance of upholding the rule of law in the nation as Liberia strives to maintain its unbroken peace and stability for over twenty years.

In a recent address during the inauguration of the Law School Student Association, the administrative head of the Liberian Senate noted that the body plays a critical role and must work with due diligence.

Drawing from her experiences at the Democratic National Convention and a legislators’ forum in China, she emphasized that a steadfast commitment to the rule of law is essential for the progress and stability of Liberia.

Senator Karnga-Lawrence, who is a prominent figure in Liberian politics and the first female senator from Grand Bassa County, articulated her concerns regarding the global trend of diminishing respect for international law, often influenced by political agendas.

“When the rule of law is compromised, destruction follows,” she stated, urging citizens to resist this troubling trend and to uphold justice and integrity in their actions.

Her call to action resonates particularly with young Liberians, inspiring them to become advocates for justice and accountability.

The senator’s leadership and integrity serve as a beacon for aspiring leaders, especially women, in a political landscape that often poses significant challenges.

Meanwhile, the Grand Bassa lawmaker extended congratulations to the newly inducted leadership of the Law Students Association.

She also encouraged Izetta Jones Howe to view her induction as Vice President of the Law Students Association as a call to service.

According to her, such a level of leadership requires diligence, honesty, and sacrifice.

Pro-Tempore Karnga-Lawrence added that this leadership should be considered a significant step in empowering future legal professionals in Liberia.
