Senator Saah H. Joseph of Montserrado County has called for immediate action to address the ongoing Go-Slow strike by healthcare workers, urging them to prioritize the well-being of the Liberian people.
Speaking from his office at the Capitol Building on Thursday, Senator Joseph expressed concern over the disruption in medical services caused by the strike and stressed the need for a swift and balanced resolution.
Senator Joseph acknowledged the challenges faced by healthcare workers in Liberia, but he voiced his deep concern about the potential dangers posed by the strike. “I acknowledge the challenges faced by healthcare workers in our country. However, I am deeply concerned about the current Go-Slow action being taken by some within the healthcare sector,” he said.
While the senator affirmed the right of workers to voice their grievances, he emphasized that such actions, especially in healthcare, have serious consequences. “Healthcare workers are the backbone of our nation’s well-being, and their dedication has always been commendable. But slowing down essential services, especially when the population needs them most, endangers lives and damages public trust in the system,” Senator Joseph warned.
He highlighted the potentially devastating impact the Go-Slow action could have on vulnerable patients and the overall stability of the healthcare system. Senator Joseph called on the government and relevant stakeholders to actively dialogue with healthcare workers to address their concerns and reach a fair and equitable solution.
“Resolving these issues requires mutual understanding,” he added. “We cannot afford actions that compromise the well-being of our citizens.”
