Senator Samuel Kogar has extended congratulations to Movement for Democracy and Reconstruction (MDR) candidate Koetor S. Kwaglue, as unofficial results from the August 12 by-election in Nimba County District #5 show Kwaglue holding a commanding lead.
In a Facebook post Wednesday morning, Senator Kogar acknowledged the will of the voters and commended Kwaglue for what appears to be a preliminary victory.
“The people of Electoral District Number 5 in Nimba County have spoken through their votes,” Senator Kogar wrote. “Consequently, I must congratulate Mr. Koetor S. Kwaglue for his preliminary win. Once again, congratulations.”
The by-election was held to fill the seat vacated by Kogar himself, who was elected to the Liberian Senate earlier this year, replacing the late Senator Prince Y. Johnson.
Although the National Elections Commission (NEC) has not yet released the official certified results, early tallies from polling centers across the district show Kwaglue with a significant lead over his rivals.
Observers have praised the peaceful conduct of the polls, and both candidates and citizens have been encouraged to await the NEC’s official declaration in the spirit of unity and democratic maturity.
