Margibi County Senator James Emmanuel Nuquay has strongly refuted accusations made by Representative Musa Bility, describing the claims as “false and misleading.” The Senator denied allegations that he has used his political power to target Bility or his company, Srimex Petroleum, for personal or political gain.
“There is no truth to the allegation that people are trying to attack Representative Musa Bility. Nobody is attacking Musa” Senator Nuquay stated in a sharp rebuttal following public accusations from Bility on the ‘Spoon Talk’ Live on Spoon FM.
The conflict erupted after Rep. Bility ~ who represents Nimba District #7 and leads the Citizens Movement for Change (CMC) ~ accused Senator Nuquay of submitting a report allegedly aimed at undermining Srimex, a private petroleum company owned by Bility. The lawmaker claimed that the report, which he says was designed to impose extra fees on private fuel petroleum companies, was politically motivated and intended to financially cripple his business operations.
According to Bility, Nuquay’s actions are part of a larger scheme to funnel money from Srimex to the Liberia Petroleum Refining Company (LPRC), which he alleged would then be distributed among political allies. He further accused the Senator of enriching himself and others through corrupt means, and challenged Nuquay to make the report public for the Liberian people to scrutinize.
Bility also claimed that Senator Nuquay feels politically threatened by his rising influence in Margibi County and is attempting to use legislative power to suppress his presence and ambitions.
In response, Senator Nuquay dismissed the allegations as baseless, asserting that the report in question was not directed at Bility or Srimex specifically. “This report is not targeting Musa Bility or any individual. It applies to all private petroleum companies operating in Liberia,” he clarified.
Nuquay made his remarks shortly after Bility publicly branded him a “criminal,” a label the Senator firmly rejected. He emphasized that the legislative inquiry he initiated was in line with national oversight responsibilities and aimed at ensuring transparency and accountability within the petroleum sector.
As tensions rise between the two politicians, the Liberian public awaits further clarification on the Senate report in question, and whether the allegations raised by Rep. Bility hold any legislative or ethical merit.
Social media is flooded with rebuttals from supporters, sympathizers and admirers of the two statesmen.
