Ambassador Christopher Hayes Onanuga, Liberia’s Ambassador for Tourism, has strongly criticized Bomi County Senator Edwin Melvin Snowe, labeling him a “con artist” on his official Facebook page on Tuesday, March 25, 2025. Onanuga’s remarks were directed at Snowe’s past actions, specifically calling attention to what he described as Snowe’s role in attempting to manipulate the country’s political landscape in 2006.
In his post, Onanuga stated, “This Con Artist called Melvin Snowe, in 2006, nearly sold the country, performing the role of The Executive President of Liberia. When he collected all he could collect from Taiwan, he even had the audacity to write letters with his con fingers, signed them, changing foreign policies of a whole country, just because the people of Montserrado made the mistake of electing him representative. Thank God he was found out.”
Onanuga further expressed concern about Snowe’s current political actions, questioning the senator’s motives and whether he is working to undermine Liberia’s state and peace for personal financial gain. “What is he doing to undermine the state and peace of this nation in West Africa, just to get his monetary aims met?” Onanuga wrote.
The ambassador also took a moral stance, stating, “A man without principles, morals, and dignity is not worth living. I wonder, I just wonder, God keep us great. Even in the midst of such character.”
The sharp critique from Onanuga has stirred reactions across the country, particularly from political observers who have pointed to the long-standing tensions between the two public figures. The ambassador’s public condemnation adds to the growing criticism of Snowe’s political career, which has been marked by controversy and accusations of corruption.
As of now, Senator Snowe has not publicly responded to Onanuga’s statements. The ongoing political climate in Liberia remains charged, as figures like Onanuga continue to challenge the integrity of their fellow politicians.
