Sierra Leonean Runner Steals the Show – Amadu Samura Wins 2025 Liberia Marathon

Monrovia — The 2025 Liberia Marathon once again turned the streets of Monrovia into a scene of excitement, unity, and national pride as thousands of runners, fitness enthusiasts, and spectators gathered for one of the country’s biggest sporting events of the year.

From elite athletes to amateur runners, participants showcased remarkable endurance and determination under the Liberian sun a true reflection of the marathon’s spirit of resilience and togetherness.

This year’s edition featured the traditional full marathon, half marathon, and 10K race, drawing competitors from across Liberia and neighboring West African nations.

The full marathon title went to Amadu Sajor Samura of Sierra Leone, who impressed spectators with his stamina and pace throughout the 42-kilometer race.

He was followed by Kalie Sesay from Freetown (Sierra Leone) in second place, and Abubakar Contec from Freetown taking third.

Among Liberian runners, Marcoa Sacrie Lok, Emmanuel Dahn, and Corace N. Diggor gave outstanding performances, finishing strong in their respective categories.

In the 10K race, Liberia’s Suech S. Makko emerged as the top finisher, while in the wheelchair category, Moses Sacror Lok and Tomas Mulbach, both representing JFK, won first place.

For the crutches category, Emmanuel Ngume took the 10K title, showcasing courage and perseverance that moved spectators to loud applause.

Speaking at the finish line, the European Union (EU) Representative Ms. Nona Deprez praised the event’s organization and the spirit it fosters among Liberians.

“The EU loves the Liberia Marathon, and we’re proud sponsors of this event over the past years,” Ms. Deprez said. “We will continue to support initiatives like this that bring people together, promote health, and celebrate unity.”

A representative of the French Business Club, one of the event’s key partners, also commended the runners and organizers for maintaining high standards and enthusiasm.

“The Liberia Marathon is more than a race it’s a celebration of strength, partnership, and community spirit,” She noted.

Special Remark for Winners and Participants

Organizers and supporters alike extended heartfelt congratulations to all winners, runners, and volunteers whose energy and dedication made the 2025 Liberia Marathon a success story.

“Each runner, whether crossing the finish line first or last, is a winner in their own right,” said Magdalene Saah one of the event coordinators. “The true victory lies in the courage to start, the strength to continue, and the joy of finishing together.”

Spectators hailed the marathon as one of the most inspiring editions yet, capturing Liberia’s collective resilience and growing passion for fitness and national unity.

Organizers described the marathon as a symbol of Liberia’s enduring spirit and a testament to the nation’s growing interest in sports and healthy living.

As the 2025 Liberia Marathon came to a close, participants and supporters alike left inspired already looking forward to next year’s edition, which promises to be even bigger and better.
