Sierra Leone’s Anti-Corruption Commission Confirms Public Auction of Property Belonging to ex-Official Convicted of Corruption

Sierra Leone’s Anti-Corruption Commission (ACC) Chairperson, Cllr. Francis Ben Kaifala, has confirmed that the prime property of Mohamed Sheku Turay, convicted of corruption in 2022, will be put up for public auction. The auction is scheduled for December 6, 2025, at 12:30 PM.

The property, located at 44/4 Jones Street, Kissy Village, East Freetown, covers approximately 0.0602 acres, equivalent to 0.7 town lots.

The sale is part of efforts to recover a substantial sum stolen from the Electricity Distribution and Supply Authority (EDSA).

Cllr. Kaifala stated, “This auction is a crucial step in our commitment to ensuring that stolen public funds are recovered and returned to the people of Sierra Leone.”

He emphasized that “the auction is being conducted under the authority of the High Court and is supervised by the Under Sheriff, not the ACC.”

Interested buyers are urged to contact the Under Sheriff’s office at the Law Courts Building on Siaka Stevens Street for details regarding the auction process.

According to court documents, the highest bidder will be declared the purchaser immediately and must sign a bidding memorandum on the spot.

The purchaser is required to pay half of the purchase price immediately at the auction and settle the balance within seven days.

Failure to comply with these payment conditions may lead to the cancellation of the sale, the documents warn.

The sale will be subject to a reserved price, ensuring the property will not be sold below a specified minimum value.

Cllr. Kaifala reiterated, “It is important that the public understands this sale is a legal measure to recover public funds and not a commercial transaction by the ACC.”

He encouraged the public to support ongoing efforts to fight corruption and recover assets linked to criminal activity.

The Inspector-General of Police, William Fayia Sellu, is overseeing the auction, ensuring the process is transparent and lawful.

The auction underscores the government’s determination to hold corrupt individuals accountable and to restore stolen wealth to national development.
