Six Arrested Over Arson Attack in Rivercess

Authorities in Rivercess County have detained six individuals in relation to the recent burning of Bethel Town in Monweh Statutory District.

The arrests were made on Friday, February 20, 2026, in Monweh District following ongoing investigations into the February 15 attack that left 21 homes destroyed and several families homeless. Police say the suspects are believed to have played various roles in the incident.

Among those taken into custody is Chief Arthur C. Davis, identified as the district’s Zoe Grand. Law enforcement sources allege that the traditional leader assisted the perpetrators by supplying gasoline used to ignite the houses. The fire reportedly caused extensive property damage and displacement within the community.

Other individuals arrested include Junior Willie, 39, and Samuel Yeagar, 27, both residents of Kangbo Town; Victor Wornee, 27, of Zinbozohn; Ben Garpue, 51, a native of Nimba County; and Titus Wrotoe, 40, a resident of Rivercess County.

Assistant Commissioner of Police Elton Gofa confirmed the arrests and disclosed that investigations are still ongoing. He emphasized that security forces are actively pursuing additional suspects believed to be connected to the arson.

Police authorities have assured residents of Monweh Statutory District that those responsible will be held accountable as the investigation continues.

Commander Gofa also cautioned traditional leaders against interfering with the investigative process. According to him, there are reports that some leaders are attempting to shield certain individuals linked to the case. He warned that anyone found obstructing justice or tampering with the investigation will face arrest.
