SMART Liberia Launches Nationwide “Giving Month” to Support Homegrown Solutions

In a bold effort to promote national development from within, SMART Liberia has officially launched The Giving Month campaign – a nationwide campaign aimed at uniting Liberians and friends of Liberia in support of trusted, locally led, impact-driven organizations across the country.

The campaign features more than 60 verified organizations already participating, with more joining regularly to build a collective force for change.

According to Dieudonne K. Perry, Chief Operating Officer, SMART Liberia, these organizations are tackling some of Liberia’s most pressing challenges-creating jobs, empowering women and girls, equipping youth with 21st-century skills, strengthening agriculture, and solving community-based problems across the nation.

As international aid continues to decline, many of these impactful organizations face mounting financial pressures, despite their deep community roots and proven effectiveness.

From Aid to Ownership

Perry emphasized that the initiative seeks to transform the traditional development narrative from dependency to empowerment – by fostering self-reliance, national pride, and local leadership.

“This campaign is about more than giving,” Perry stated. “Liberia Giving Month is about investing in our own solutions and reclaiming our role in shaping the future we want for ourselves, our children, and our communities.”

Building Stronger Communities, One Gift at a Time

Every contribution, regardless of size, plays a critical role in strengthening the work of grassroots nonprofits that are making real change.

From youth programs teaching digital literacy in rural areas to cooperatives advancing food security and women’s groups promoting gender equity, Liberia Giving Month empowers donors to invest directly in what matters most.

The campaign encourages not only financial support but also the sharing of stories, raising of awareness, and advocacy for Liberia’s local change-makers.

The Time to Act Is Now

As Liberia looks toward a more resilient and self-sustaining future, Liberia Giving Month is a national call to action, a time for unity, generosity, and confidence in the country’s capacity to solve its own problems from the ground up. The goal of SMART Liberia is clear: a Liberia where development is driven, resourced, and celebrated by Liberians.
