SMU Alumni Ambassador to Liberia Applauds President Boakai for Dismissing LDEA Management, Calls for National Anti-Drugs Incident Management System

Monrovia, Liberia — In a passionate message directed to President Joseph Nyumah Boakai Sr., the Southern Medical University – SMU Alumni Ambassador to Liberia and a Public Health Expert, Samuel B.N. Babajuah has commended the Liberian leader for his bold decision to dismiss the entire management team of the Liberia Drug Enforcement Agency (LDEA). The President took this decision on Thursday, August 28, 2025, citing administrative reasons.

This decisive action, according to Babajuah, underscores President Boakai’s commitment to tackling the severe drug epidemic that is increasingly threatening the stability and health of Liberia.

Mr. Babajuah who also serves as Chief Executive Officer for
The Royal Excellence Group of Companies described the drug crisis as a national emergency that requires urgent intervention, emphasizing that previous administrations have inadequately addressed this pressing issue, which disproportionately impacts the nation’s youth. He urged the president to declare a State of Emergency regarding drugs and to establish a National Anti-Drugs Incident Management System (IMS) to coordinate a concerted response to this crisis.

Drawing parallels with Liberia’s successful management of past health crises, such as the Ebola and COVID-19 pandemics, Mr. Babajuah argued that a similar IMS could effectively unify the government’s response to the drug epidemic. The proposed system, he believes aims to cultivate collaboration among various stakeholders, including government ministries, security forces, international partners, and community leaders, while also reaching out to the Liberian diaspora for support and resource mobilization.

According to a Liberian Public Health Expert, declaring a State of Emergency on Drugs is framed as a hopeful initiative that would safeguard the future of Liberia and affirm the government’s commitment to the young population. Mr. Babajuah also called for increased resources and the expansion of rehabilitation programs to assist those affected by drug abuse, underlining that the current crisis poses a fundamental threat to Liberia’s survival.

In conclusion, Babajuah encouraged President Boakai to take decisive action and highlight proper coordination to transform this crisis into an opportunity for renewal and progress. He extended a message of hope to the young people of Liberia, reaffirming their value and potential in the face of adversity and emphasizing the nation’s collective fight against the drug epidemic.
