The Government of Liberia, through its State-Owned Enterprises (SOEs), has launched the Short-Term Youth Empowerment Project to address rising youth unemployment and support community development initiatives. The project, endorsed by President Joseph Nyumah Boakai, is part of the administration’s Sanitation Component under the ARREST Agenda for Inclusive Development (AAID).
The initiative aims to provide young Liberians with short-term employment opportunities while improving urban sanitation. Participants will engage in tasks such as street cleaning, roadside brushing, and painting, working six hours daily from Monday to Saturday. The project is supported by key SOEs, including the Liberia Petroleum Refining Company (LPRC), National Port Authority (NPA), Liberia Maritime Authority (LiMA), National Social Security and Welfare Corporation (NASSCORP), Liberia Telecommunications Authority (LTA), Liberia Electricity Corporation (LEC), and the Central Bank of Liberia (CBL), in partnership with the Monrovia City Corporation (MCC) and the Paynesville City Corporation (PCC).
According to a release from the SOEs, applicants must meet specific eligibility criteria to participate. Interested individuals must be at least 18 years old, physically capable of performing manual labor, and committed to working six hours per day from 7:30 AM to 1:30 PM. Applicants must also have a registered Mobile Money number in their name and provide two passport-sized photos upon selection.
Applications are being accepted at several designated centers across Monrovia and its suburbs. Submission locations include Monrovia City Hall on 1st Street, Sinkor; Paynesville City Hall on Weaver Street; New Kru Town Hall; Brewerville City Hall; Gardnerville Town Hall; the LPRC Security Booth on Bushrod Island; and the SKD Sports Complex in Paynesville.
The deadline for application submissions is Friday, February 28, 2025, at 5:00 PM. The SOEs have emphasized that supervisor positions are limited and encouraged early applications.
The project also prioritizes gender inclusion, urging women and girls aged 18 and above to apply. This initiative is part of the government’s broader effort to create employment opportunities for youth while enhancing sanitation and urban development across Liberia.
