Speaker Koon Appoints Former LACC Chairman James Verdier as Chief of Staff and Legal Consultant

The Speaker of the House of Representatives, Hon. Richard Nagbe Koon, has announced the appointment of former Liberia Anti-Corruption Commission (LACC) Chairman, Cllr. James N. Verdier Jr., as Senior Legal Consultant and Chief of Staff in his office.

The appointment, which takes immediate effect, is reported to bring into the Speaker’s office one of Liberia’s most seasoned legal minds and governance experts.

Cllr. Verdier Over the course of his career, has served as Vice President of the Liberian National Bar Association, Assistant Professor at the Louis Arthur Grimes School of Law, Head of the Catholic Justice and Peace Commission, and Executive Chairman of the Liberia Anti-Corruption Commission.

With specialties in democratic governance, anti-corruption, justice and security, human rights, and civil litigation, Verdier is expected to provide strategic leadership and legal expertise to enhance the functions of the Speaker’s office.

Speaker Koon expressed optimism that the new appointment will strengthen the operations of his office and elevate its service delivery. “Cllr. Verdier brings not only legal brilliance but also integrity and vast experience that will help guide this office in line with the vision of the House of Representatives,” Speaker Koon noted.

As Senior Legal Consultant and Chief of Staff to the third-highest official in the Liberian government, Cllr. Verdier will play a pivotal role in advising the Speaker on key legislative, legal, and administrative matters. He will also lead efforts to restructure and modernize the Speaker’s office to meet the demands of a results-driven and accountable legislature.

Cllr. Verdier, in accepting the appointment, pledged his commitment to professionalism and excellence. He emphasized that his focus will be on strengthening institutional performance and ensuring that the Speaker’s office remains an effective arm of the Liberian Legislature.
