The Speaker of the House of Representatives, Richard Nagbe Koon, warmly welcomed His Excellency Yoshimoto Hiroshi, Ambassador of Japan to Liberia, during a courtesy visit held on Friday, May 23, 2025. The visit was organized to congratulate Speaker Koon on his recent election to lead the House.
In his remarks, Speaker Koon expressed sincere gratitude for the Ambassador’s visit, highlighting it as a strong symbol of Japan’s confidence in his leadership. “I am truly grateful for this significant recognition, which reflects the confidence placed in me by the people of Japan through the Ambassador’s esteemed presence,” he stated.
The meeting proved both cordial and productive, focusing on strengthening diplomatic relations and exploring avenues for further cooperation between Japan and Liberia.
Speaker Koon also acknowledged Japan’s invaluable support through various development projects, notably the Japanese Counterpart Value Funded Projects. He cited the Somalia Drive Highway project, which has greatly improved Liberia’s road infrastructure, ongoing assistance to the Ministry of Health to enhance the national healthcare system, and the donation of 400 motorboat engines to the National Fisheries and Aquaculture Authority (NaFAA), which has bolstered the fisheries sector.
Reaffirming the commitment of Liberia’s Legislature, Speaker Koon pledged to continue fostering the strong partnership with Japan, built on a foundation of mutual respect and shared development goals.
