Spoon CEO Stanton Witherspoon Claps Back at Tweah, Accuses Him of Offering Bribes and Fiscal Mismanagement

In a pointed response to Samuel Tweah, Liberia’s former Minister of Finance, Stanton Witherspoon, CEO of Spoon Network, has voiced his concerns regarding the political tensions that have arisen following Tweah’s recent press conference. Witherspoon criticized Tweah, questioning the motive behind his vocal outburst and shedding light on their previous interactions.

Witherspoon recounted a conference call with Tweah and several notable figures, including Keth Hassan, Isaac Doe, and Acarous Gray, although he expressed uncertainty about Gray’s participation. During the call, Tweah was unexpectedly added to the conversation, prompting Witherspoon’s refusal to engage, stating emphatically, “I’m not talking to Samuel Tweah.” He described the subsequent exchanges that led him to disconnect from the call, expressing frustration at being pressured to address issues related to Tweah.

At the heart of Witherspoon’s revelation was his belief that Tweah’s mismanagement of State resources as Finance Minister has had a detrimental effect on Liberia and its economy. “You destroyed our country,” Witherspoon declared, clarifying that his criticisms were directed at Tweah’s actions rather than a personal grudge.

Moreover, Witherspoon disclosed a disturbing interaction involving someone whom Tweah purportedly approached with a financial offer intended to allegedly bribe Witherspoon. He recounted a conversation where this individual indicated that money was being offered as an enticement for him to discuss certain matters with Tweah. Witherspoon expressed his disapproval of this proposition, asserting, “I said, what? How much are you asking for?” He further asserted his unwillingness to engage in any conversation surrounding financial inducement, firmly stating, “I don’t want to get into that conversation.”

Witherspoon pledged to provide further details about the covert meeting where these discussions took place, hinting at forthcoming revelations about the individuals involved. He remains steadfast in his critique of Tweah, advocating for accountability in light of the economic challenges facing Liberia.

In closing, Witherspoon emphasized that the accountability of the current devastating state of the nation rests squarely with Tweah. He warned that if President Boakai fails to take decisive action against Tweah, the President himself will be deemed responsible for the damage caused by Tweah’s actions. Witherspoon’s statements highlight the ongoing political discord in Liberia and raise critical questions about the accountability of those who were once in positions of power.
