Residents of Bong and Grand Bassa counties are rejoicing as the St. John River Bridge, a vital connection between the two regions, has finally undergone a much-needed transformation.
The bridge, once a cause of concern due to its poor condition and history of fatal accidents, is now ready for its dedication thanks to the collaborative efforts of local authorities and ArcelorMittal Liberia.
The push for the renovation of the St. John River Bridge began with calls from residents of both counties to address the neglect of this essential infrastructure. After multiple meetings between ArcelorMittal Liberia management, county officials, and local representatives, a significant step was taken to provide the technical and logistical support needed to complete the project.
During a visit to the bridge site at Rock Crusher, Representative Koinah and Representative Alfred Flomo were praised by residents for their dedication to making this project a reality. Both officials emphasized the importance of the bridge not only as a travel route but also as a key element supporting the operations of ArcelorMittal Liberia in the region.
The St. John River Bridge, spanning 135 meters and linking Bong and Grand Bassa counties, is now expected to last for 50 years, ensuring safety and reliability for generations to come. The recent upgrades include a new pedestrian walkway, enhancing safety for all users of the bridge.
