STAND Champions Fair Justice, Backs Government’s Anti-Corruption Drive

The anti-impunity advocacy organization, Solidarity & Trust for a New Day (STAND), has thrown its weight behind the Boakai-led government’s ongoing anti-corruption campaign.

This initiative, believed to be targeting corruption at all levels of government, represents a crucial step towards fostering justice, accountability, and good governance in Liberia.

STAND’s endorsement of the campaign underscores the organization’s commitment to combating corruption, a menace that has long plagued the nation’s development.

The organization emphasizes that this effort transcends the interests of a few individuals and their associates and requires the united support of all Liberians, regardless of ethnicity, political affiliation, religion, or social background.

“STAND supports the prosecution of any current or former government official for corruption when there is evidence,” said a representative from STAND. “We commend the Boakai administration for taking firm action to prosecute former officials based on legitimate audit findings and look forward to similar actions against current officials where proof is available. These bold steps signify a significant shift from Liberia’s past tolerance of corruption, demonstrating a clear commitment to justice and accountability.”

The pro-advocacy institution urges all citizens, including leaders of all political parties, to support these anti-corruption efforts. Corruption, they assert, is the real threat to peace and must be confronted head-on. By acknowledging and condemning this national problem, Liberians can collectively work towards holding those responsible accountable, thus paving the way for national progress.

Recognizing the importance of transparency in the fight against corruption, STAND calls on the Boakai government to maintain a comprehensive and impartial approach in holding accountable those responsible for crimes against the country.

By steadfastly committing to transparency and accountability in all aspects of governance, President Boakai can foster ethical leadership and uphold these principles across all levels of government dealings.

In this spirit, Solidarity & Trust for a New Day (STAND) insists that the fight against corruption must be waged within the confines of the rule of law, adhering to impartial and comprehensive goals.

The organization highlights the principle that the law requires treating all accused as innocent until proven guilty in a court of competent jurisdiction, free from any political bias or unlawful interference.

This approach not only ensures justice but also strengthens public trust in the legal system.

While STAND seeks to foster a unified and collective national front in the fight against corruption, it acknowledges that pushbacks are inevitable, given Liberia’s long history of corruption and its complex ethnic, political, cultural, and religious dynamics.

However, the organization encourages all Liberians to rise above party zealotry, religious biases, and ethnic solidarity.

By overcoming these divisive vices, the nation can unite against the cancer of corruption and ensure that individuals accused of corruption, whether yesterday, today, or tomorrow, face justice in courts of competent jurisdiction based on substantial evidence, not their political, ethnic, or religious affiliations.

STAND stresses that unless there is widespread support for an unbiased fight against corruption, no matter who is president, and a firm insistence that every accused person faces equitable justice regardless of their affiliation, patriotism is reduced to mere lip service.

True patriotism demands a collective stand against corruption, driven by a genuine commitment to justice and national progress.

STAND is however calling upon all Liberians to put aside their biases and unite against corruption in the same way they are united for peace and development.

By doing so, the nation can create a future where justice prevails, governance is transparent, and the scourge of corruption is eradicated from Liberia’s political and social fabric.

Only through such collective action can Liberia achieve the peace, stability, and development its citizens deserve.
