SUP Blasts U.L Over ‘Cosmetic Renovataion and Repairs’ at Graduate School Building

Monrovia — The Student Unification Party (SUP) has criticized the administration of the University of Liberia over what it described as “cosmetic repairs” being carried out at the institution’s Graduate School building.

In a statement issued on Wednesday, the student-based political movement accused university authorities of conducting a “cosmetic beautification exercise” rather than implementing meaningful rehabilitation of the facility.

According to SUP, the ongoing painting and surface-level repairs at the Graduate School building do not amount to genuine renovation but instead attempt to mask years of administrative neglect and deteriorating infrastructure.

The group argued that the university administration appears more focused on improving the outward appearance of campus structures than addressing deeper structural and academic challenges confronting the state-run institution.

SUP maintained that repainting walls and fixing building facades cannot substitute for comprehensive structural renovation and proper investment in the university’s facilities.

“Painting and minor adjustments cannot solve the long-standing infrastructure crisis at the university,” the statement said. “What is being presented to the public as rehabilitation is merely a cosmetic exercise that fails to address the real problems affecting students and the learning environment.”

The organization further called for what it described as a transparent and inclusive rehabilitation process that would involve key stakeholders, particularly students whose academic activities are directly affected by the condition of campus facilities.

SUP also urged students and members of the public to remain vigilant and demand genuine improvements to the university’s infrastructure rather than temporary aesthetic upgrades.

The student movement said it is closely monitoring the ongoing painting work at the Graduate School building, noting that its involvement is intended to ensure accountability and safeguard the interests of students.

The Student Unification Party remains one of the most influential student organizations on the campuses of the University of Liberia and is widely known for its vocal advocacy on issues affecting students and public education in Liberia.
