Supreme Court Places Hold on Both Sessions, Orders Conference

Verity News has sourced a Supreme Court’s directive from Justice in Chambers Yamie Quiqui Gbeisay summoning members of the “Majority Bloc” in the House of Representatives on November 4, 2024 to a crucial conference regarding a petition filed against them by the embattled House Speaker Fonati Koffa.

The latest directive confirms that a petition, led by Speaker J. Fonati Koffa and other elected officers, seeking a writ of prohibition to address alleged actions taken by Representatives Samuel G. Kogar and Richard Nagbe Koon, among others was filed.

According to an official communication from the Office of the Clerk of the Supreme Court, all further proceedings related to this matter have been ordered to remain on hold until after the conference, scheduled for November 4, 2024, at 10:00 a.m.

The case raises significant questions about the authority and control exercised by the Majority Bloc within the House, as tensions escalate among lawmakers.

The conference, which is expected to be presided over by Associate Justice His Yamie Quiqui Gbeisay, aims to clarify these issues and determine the next steps.

The outcome of this case could have profound implications for the legislative process in Liberia, as the nation grapples with political divisions.

Political and legal pundits as well as Stakeholders and citizens are looking forward to see the outcome of the November 4 conference.

There have been mixed views in the public in relation to the current turmoil on Capitol Hill.
