The Eagle Soars Again: St. Paul Ecumenical High Graduates All 52 WASSCE Students in Margibi

Margibi County, Liberia – Jubilation filled the air at St. Paul Ecumenical High School as the institution proudly celebrated the graduation of all 52 of its students who sat for the West African Senior School Certificate Examination (WASSCE). The resounding success further solidified the school’s growing academic reputation in Margibi County and across Liberia.

The grand occasion, held in the school’s main auditorium ~ referred to as the “Eagle Kingdom”~ on Sunday, October 12, 2025, was marked by joy, pride, and celebration from students, staff, parents, and dignitaries.

Dr. Henric Marcus Speare, founder of the institution, could not contain his joy as he praised the students for their outstanding performance. Beaming with pride, he declared, “The eagle once again has shown supremacy. Successfully passing the national exam isn’t just an achievement for the institution but for the county as well.”

Known for his passionate rhetoric, Dr. Speare declared St. Paul Ecumenical High School as the brightest academic beacon in Margibi County. “This institution has proven to be the brightest in academia ~ and we’re proud of our success,” he added.

However, Dr. Speare also used the occasion to call on the Ministry of Education to step up oversight of schools in Liberia that impose high registration fees without providing proper facilities or quality education. “Why are they even charging high fees when they don’t have good facilities?” he questioned. “The Ministry needs to monitor these schools.”

The keynote address was delivered by Melvin Quinway, Chairman of the Management Department at AME Zion University, who served as the commencement speaker. Quinway urged the graduates to pursue their dreams with determination and resilience.

“Tenacity is the fire that never stops burning,” Quinway said. “Don’t limit yourself. Push for the higher high.” He drew inspiration from American inventor Thomas Edison to drive home his message of persistence. “Thomas Edison failed many times but remained committed. That’s the spirit you need.”

Also addressing the graduates was Rev. Dr. Emmanuel F. Johnson, President of AME Zion University, who encouraged the students to remain focused on their long-term goals. “Recognize your vision,” he said. “If you can see your vision clearly, you are more than halfway to achieving it.”

The ceremony was a colorful affair, marked by cultural performances, student presentations, and goodwill messages from invited and uninvited guests who came to show support.

District Education Officer (DEO) of the Farmington Educational District, Joe Flomo, was also in attendance and commended the school and students for their remarkable performance. “This achievement is commendable. It is a reflection of dedication and hard work from both students and teachers,” he said.

With all 52 students successfully passing the WASSCE, St. Paul Ecumenical High School continues to live up to its moniker ~ “The Eagle Kingdom” ~ soaring high in academic excellence and inspiring others in the educational sector.
