The United Methodist Annual Conference Assistant Director for Human Rights Accuses Government of Rape Suspect

The Assistant Director for Human Rights at the United Methodist Annual Conference Cllr. J. Abel Knight has accused the government of Liberia of giving a preferential treatment to Deputy Minister for Youth Development at the Ministry of Youth and Sports Mr. J. Bryant McGill, who stands accused of raping a 14-year-old minor.

Cllr. Knight asserted that everyone who is being accused of rape is immediately arrested and incasurated while the investigation is ongoing.

He noted that in the instance case with Deputy Minister McGill, he is still going about his normal business after being accused of raping a minor.

Cllr. Knight, however, called on the government, especially the Inspector General of Liberia National Police Col. Gorgeory O. W. Coleman to immediately arrest Deputy Minister McGill and remand him while the investigation is ongoing.

According to him, the United Methodist Annual Conference, as a church organization frawn on the abuse of a minor by a high ranking public official.

He said the Human Rights department of the UMC Annual Conference is going to monitor the entire process until it reach to a logical conclusion.

Cllr. Knight, amongst other things sent out a strong warning to would be rape perpetrators to desist from such Barbara act, especially so with public officials.

However, during a press briefing held on Wednesday, September 17, 2025, the inspector General of Police Col. Geogery Coleman noted that nobody is about the law.

Col. Coleman admitted that the 14 Year old Survivor in the rape case involving the deputy Minister for youth Development, was actually tempered with.

IG Coleman and cross section of Officials from Ministry of Justice and Gender, reveled at the Press Conference that this matter is delicate and has to been handled with care to ensure prosecution with evidence.

According to him, the investigation is ongoing and as they continued to speak with the Survivor, new information comes out that could lead to the invitation or subpoena of other deputy Ministers and employees of the Ministry.

The Police IG also requested the United States Embassy to assist with the DNA sample forensic examination of the evidence.

The Investigation will also request the Court to subpoena call logs from the GSM companies.

The IG assured the public that No one is above the Law and anyone linked with be arrested and prosecuted as required by Law.

Almost two weeks now since deputy Minister Brayant McGill has been accused of raping a 14 Year old daughter of his colleague at the Ministry of Youth and Sport.
