The Interim President of the Federation of Liberian Youth (FLY), Amos Williams, has issued a stern caveat to Mr. Duku Jallah, warning him to immediately desist from “parading himself as President-elect” of the Federation.
Williams said the so-called FLY “congress” recently held in Bong County, which produced Jallah as president-elect, was marred by irregularities and procedural violations, and therefore holds no legal or institutional legitimacy.
“Let it be clear there is no legitimate president-elect of FLY at this time,” Williams declared. “Mr. Duku Jallah must stop purporting as such. The purported congress in Bong County failed to follow the proper procedures outlined in the Constitution of FLY and cannot be recognized.”
The newly appointed interim leader made the remarks as part of a broader statement following his appointment by the Ministry of Youth and Sports to steer the Federation through a transitional process toward credible and inclusive leadership elections.
Williams stressed that his interim team’s primary task is to restore order, transparency, and unity within the youth movement, which has in recent months been rocked by internal divisions and power struggles.
“At this crucial moment, I urge all youth and student leaders, county coordinators, former youth leaders, and stakeholders to unite in a spirit of cooperation and goodwill,” he urged.
“Our shared goal is to ensure a smooth, transparent, and inclusive leadership transition that truly reflects the aspirations of Liberia’s young people.”
As part of the transitional process, Williams announced the establishment of a Technical Working Committee to oversee the interim administration and the forthcoming elections.
The committee includes:
• Mr. Flomo Mau Maiwo, Lead Technical Adviser to the President and Committee
• Mr. Blama Goll, Chairman of the Technical Committee
• Mr. Hillary Quito, Member, Former Coordinator and 3rd Vice President, FLY
• Ms. Fatumata P. Dolleh, Secretary, Former Vice President, Montserrado County Student Union (LINSU)
• Mr. James Zogar, Coordinator, River Cess County
Williams, as interim president, will supervise the committee and oversee the creation of additional subcommittees, including an independent Election Commission that will conduct the upcoming leadership elections.
He called on county coordinators to begin preparations for the elections, including membership regularization and the inclusion of all recognized youth organizations across the country.
“We are determined to conduct a free, fair, and credible election where every young person’s voice counts,” Williams said. “Accountability, transparency, and inclusion will guide every step of this process.”
A stakeholder meeting is expected to be held on Tuesday to foster dialogue and coordination among youth and student leaders. A detailed roadmap and election guideline will also be released soon, outlining the timeline and procedures for the transition.
Williams concluded with a message of unity and renewed commitment to youth empowerment: “We honor the contributions of past leaders, but this is a new chapter for FLY one that must be guided by integrity and service. God bless the young people of Liberia and bless our nation.”
