Timbo, River Cess County – The community of River Cess County is grappling with yet another tragic loss as a drowning incident on December 30 marked the third fatality in just over a week.
Chansis Diggs and James Joe were near the Timbo River when Joe attempted to swim across to retrieve a canoe, despite warnings from witnesses. Tragically, Joe disappeared during his attempt and has not been seen since.
This heartbreaking incident comes on the heels of two similar tragedies. On December 24, a local fisherman went missing in the river, and just three days later, a 19-year-old lost his life while swimming.
These consecutive drownings have left the community in shock, with residents calling for urgent action to address safety along the river.
Family members and friends of James Joe have expressed profound grief over the loss, as the search for his body continues.
Authorities are urging residents to exercise caution near the water, particularly as seasonal flooding and high river levels make conditions more dangerous.
Local leaders have echoed these calls for vigilance, emphasizing the importance of awareness and preventive measures to avoid further loss of life.
Many community members are advocating for stronger safety protocols, including increased signage and community-led initiatives to educate residents about the risks of navigating the river during flood season.
