“This Isn’t a Civil Case,” Former Margibi Lawmaker Slams ANC Political Leader Cummings

Former Margibi County senatorial candidate and ex-Representative of District #2, Hon. Ballah G. Zayzay, has taken a firm stance against recent comments made by the political leader of the Alternative National Congress (ANC), criticizing what he describes as a lack of respect for members of the Legislature.

Speaking to Verity on Sunday, Hon. Zayzay emphasized that lawmakers are “honorable people” and deserve respect ~ but only if they conduct themselves in a manner worthy of that honor.

“Lawmakers should firstly honor themselves before being honored,” he stated.

The former lawmaker, who is a member of the Unity Party, also used the platform to clarify the legal nature of the case currently involving some members of the legislature, pointing out the distinction between civil and criminal matters.

“Let Liberians understand that this case isn’t a civil case,” Hon. Zayzay asserted. “This is a criminal matter, and legislators are not treated harshly in civil cases. This situation is different.”

He called on the Liberian government to ensure that the matter is investigated thoroughly and fairly, without any form of political interference or witch-hunting.

Zayzay also condemned the recent burning of the capitol building linked to the controversy, calling it “unpatriotic” and urging all Liberians to distance themselves from such acts.

“That kind of behavior should not be backed or supported by any patriotic Liberian,” he said.

The former representative’s comments come amid rising political tensions and growing public debate over the rule of law, due process, and respect for public officials.
