On Wednesday, June 12, 2024, the Liberia National Police (LNP) arrested, investigated, charged, and forwarded to court three suspects for violations of sections 15.51, 15.56, and 15.70 of the Penal Law of the Republic of Liberia.
These sections pertain to theft of property, misappropriation of entrusted property, and criminal conspiracy, respectively.
The LNP disclosed that the three suspects—26-year-old Patricia W. Paye, 40-year-old Janet Jabbah, and 25-year-old Thomas T. N’Debay—committed these crimes.
Their arrests followed a complaint filed on May 4, 2024, by Oretha Jornkatonor, a resident of Tweh Farm, Bushrod Island.
Oretha alleged that she paid the sum of USD 1,350.00 to the three suspects in exchange for assistance in obtaining a foreign scholarship to the American continent.
However, the police’s preliminary investigation revealed that the victim was directed to Q-Net, an entity not legally recognized by the Liberian government to offer any permits for students wishing to study abroad.
In light of these findings, the investigation charged the suspects with the crimes of theft of property, misappropriation of entrusted property, and criminal conspiracy.
These charges fall under sections 15.51, 15.56, and 15.70 of the Penal Law of the Republic of Liberia. The suspects have been forwarded to court for prosecution.
Q-Net has garnered a reputation for exploiting Liberians by promising them foreign opportunities.
With numerous complaints from citizens, the LNP has taken a proactive stance in addressing and preventing such exploitation, demonstrating their commitment to protecting the public from fraudulent schemes.
