Tragic Helicopter Crash Claims Eight Lives Including Ghanaian Minister of Defense

In an official announcement, the Ghanaian Government has confirmed a national tragedy following the crash of a military helicopter in the Adansi area of the Ashanti Region. The incident, which occurred early in the day, has resulted in the death of several prominent government officials.

In a Press Statement, the Chief of Staff to President John Dramani Mahama officially confirmed the death of the following individuals: Dr Edward Omane Boamah, Minister for Defence; Dr Ibrahim Murtala Muhammed, Minister for Environment, Science, Technology and Innovation; Mr. Alhaji Muniru Mohammed, Acting Deputy National Security Coordinator; and Dr Samuel Sarpong, Vice Chairman of the National Democratic Congress (NDC).

Others are Mr Samuel Aboagye, a Former parliamentary candidate; Squadron Leader Peter Bafemi Anala; Flying Officer Twum Ampadu; and Sergeant Ernest Addo Mensah.

Following the incident, emergency response teams were dispatched immediately after the aircraft lost contact. Graphic images from the crash site showed burnt wreckage, but officials say investigations are ongoing to determine the cause of the incident.

Meanwhile, the government has extended its condolences to the families of the deceased and pledged full support during this difficult time. “In honour of the fallen, all national flags are to be flown at half-mast.”

The government also expressed deep regret over the loss of these distinguished individuals, underscoring the significant impact their contributions had on the nation. A statement from the Executive emphasized that the nation is mourning in this challenging time. Further investigations into the crash are expected to follow.
