U.S. President Donald J. Trump has ignited renewed controversy after calling for Democratic Congresswoman Ilhan Omar to be jailed or deported to Somalia, remarks that have drawn sharp attention across the political spectrum.
In a series of posts on his Truth Social platform, Trump accused Omar of involvement in what he described as “billions of dollars in fraud” in the US state of Minnesota.
According to DW News, the U.S. president did not provide any evidence to substantiate the claims.
Trump further alleged that Omar “hates the USA” and suggested that she should be removed from the country, adding that she “could help to make Somalia great again,” a reference to her country of birth.
Ilhan Omar was born in Somalia and later arrived in the United States as a refugee.
She became a naturalized US citizen in 2000 and has represented Minnesota in the US House of Representatives since 2019.
According to reports, as a US citizen, Omar cannot be deported, and there are no verified reports or legal findings linking her to the large-scale fraud alleged by Trump.
The comments have been widely described as inflammatory and underscore the deep political divisions that continue to shape national discourse in the United States, particularly as tensions rise in an already polarized environment.
