U.S. President Donald Trump has claimed that Iran’s president requested a ceasefire amid the ongoing conflict, but said Washington would only consider it if the Strait of Hormuz is reopened.
In a social media post, Trump stated that any halt in fighting depends on the key oil shipping route being “open, free and clear,” adding that U.S. military operations would continue until then.
However, Iran’s foreign ministry swiftly rejected the claim, describing it as “false and baseless,” according to state media.
Reports suggest indirect discussions over a possible ceasefire tied to reopening the strait may be underway, though no agreement has been confirmed.
The Strait of Hormuz remains a critical global oil route, and its closure has heightened tensions and disrupted energy markets.
