Tubman University and University of Memphis Forge Landmark Academic Partnership

Harper City, Maryland- The William V. S. Tubman University (TU) has signed a Memorandum of Agreement (MoA) with the University of Memphis, USA.

The agreement, formalized on June 18, 2025, was signed by TU President Dr. Olu Q. Menjay and University of Memphis President Dr. Bill Hardgrave.

This partnership represents a shared commitment to strengthening academic programs through joint research initiatives, co-hosted seminars, professional internships, and strategies for workforce development.

The agreement underscores TU’s drive to expand global partnerships and raise the standard of higher education in southeastern Liberia.

During his recent visit to the University of Memphis, Dr. Menjay engaged with top academic leaders, including Dr. David Russomanno, Executive Vice President for Academic Affairs and Provost.

Together, they outlined immediate areas for collaboration-particularly in the fields of education and engineering, which are critical for national and international development.

Strategic meetings with the respective deans, Dr. Mike Miller and Dr. Okenwa Okoli, PhD, CEng, CSci, FIMMM, helped shape concrete pathways for future joint initiatives.

The timing of this agreement aligns with Liberian President H.E. Joseph Boakai’s recent visit to the United States, during which discussions centered on advancing trade and bilateral cooperation.

TU’s efforts reflect a broader national strategy to position Liberia as a center for innovation and global engagement.

“This agreement creates exciting opportunities for our faculty and students to engage with global academic standards and strengthen our research capabilities,” said Dr. Menjay.

“It represents our ongoing mission to elevate Tubman University as a hub for academic excellence, research, and impactful international collaboration. We deeply appreciate the University of Memphis for embracing this shared vision.”

Dr. Russomanno shared similar sentiments: “We are honored to collaborate with Tubman University on this forward-thinking initiative. Cross-border academic exchange fosters transformative outcomes for our institutions and the communities we serve.”

Although the MoA does not entail immediate financial commitments, it lays a strategic foundation for future cooperative projects based on mutual interests and available resources.

This partnership marks a pivotal step in TU’s aspiration to achieve academic distinction and cultivate meaningful global relationships. Special thanks to Ms. Rebecca Laumann for her valuable contributions to this initiative.
