Harper, Maryland County | Oct. 24, 2025 | The administration of the William V.S. Tubman University – TU has urged students to refrain from engaging in campus protests, instead adopt peaceful dialogue as a more productive means of resolving grievances.

The call was made on Wednesday, October 22, during the 13th Inaugural Ceremony of the William V.S.Tubman University Student Government Association – TUSGA, held at the Harper City Hall in Maryland County.

Delivering keynote remarks at the well-attended event, Dr. Olu Q. Menjay, President and CEO of Tubman University, stressed that maintaining peace, respect, and cooperation within the academic community is essential to the university’s mission.

“A University can only thrive when dialogue replaces confrontation,” Dr. Menjay stated. “If we respect one another and work together, Tubman University will continue to stand as a beacon of knowledge, peace, and academic excellence.”

Dr. Menjay reaffirmed his administration’s commitment to open engagement with students, encouraging the new leadership of TUSGA to serve as a vital link between the student body and the university administration.

He reminded them that the institution’s doors remain open to consultations and constructive discussions aimed at promoting progress.

“My office remains open to meaningful consultations,” he added. “Constructive engagement is the path to progress not street protests or disruptions that undermine the spirit of higher learning.”

Held under the theme “Embracing Unity and Teamwork in Diversity for Progress,” the induction ceremony marked the official installation of Student Reed June Harmon II as the 13th President of the Tubman University Student Government Association.

In his inaugural address, Student President Harmon vowed to lead with inclusivity, transparency, and dialogue.

He appealed to students to channel their concerns through appropriate structures and work collectively to advance the goals of the university.

“Our strength as students lies in our unity,” Harmon said. “We can achieve more through teamwork and respectful engagement than through confrontation. This administration will be one of action, inclusion, and results.”

President Harmon also extended appreciation to the university administration for its support and to his fellow students for the confidence reposed in his leadership.

He assured the student body that his government would focus on strengthening communication between students and school authorities, ensuring that the voices of all students are heard and respected.

Other newly inducted officers include: Moselyne H. Wilson, Vice President, Nelson Swen, Student Representative to the University Council, Lawrence B. Turay, General Secretary

and Shadrick Brown, Financial Secretary respectively.

The colorful ceremony brought together students, faculty, and community leaders from across Maryland County.
