The Ministry of Agriculture has announced departure of twenty young Liberian extension officers to embark on a transformative training program at the Agricultural Technology and Management Seminar in Beijing, China.
Commencing on June 20, 2024, this three-week initiative marks a collaborative effort between the Liberian government and its Chinese partners, promising to elevate agricultural productivity and promote sustainable development across Liberia.
Negotiated earlier this year by Liberia’s Minister of Agriculture, Dr. J. Alexander Nuetah, this pioneering training program is poised to reshape Liberia’s agricultural landscape.
The participants, including seven females, will visit renowned research facilities in China to acquire specialized knowledge in cutting-edge agricultural technologies, advanced farming practices, and effective management strategies.
Through hands-on training and theoretical coursework, they will gain invaluable expertise to apply as extension officers back home, ushering in a new era of agricultural excellence.
Dr. Nuetah expressed gratitude to the Chinese government for facilitating this opportunity, emphasizing its tailored relevance to Liberia’s needs.
“Agriculture is fundamental to our national development agenda. As ambassadors of Liberia, uphold agriculture as a priority and advocate for food self-sufficiency,” he urged the participants.
Speaking on behalf of the beneficiaries, Abass Mark Biaty, a master’s degree holder actively engaged in fieldwork, lauded the transparency of the selection process and the minister’s commitment to empowering youth. “Putting young people at the forefront marks a new paradigm in Liberia. We pledge that this investment will yield significant dividends,” he affirmed.
Nounou Sharty, a recent graduate from the University of Liberia’s College of Agriculture, expressed gratitude for the opportunity, emphasizing her commitment to transforming Liberia’s agricultural narrative upon their return.
“We will work tirelessly to contribute to Liberia’s agricultural transformation,” she pledged.
The Ministry of Agriculture also lauded the Government of the People’s Republic of China for their generosity and partnership in facilitating this transformative training opportunity.
The initiative underscores Liberia’s commitment to advancing the welfare and prosperity of its citizens through strategic collaborations.
