Gbarnga, Bong County – During a meeting on Sunday, August 3, 2025, at the party local headquarters in Gbarnga, Martha Morris, chairperson of the Unity Party (UP) Bong Chapter announced that the chapter has successfully raised L$752,000 for the month of July as dues aimed at enhancing governance and supporting local development initiatives in Bong County. This gesture followed a strategic meeting called by Bong County Senator Prince Moye and appointed officials of the government in the county a few months ago.
Morris emphasized the collective responsibility of government officials and party members of the county in fostering progress, stressing that the president cannot single-handedly manage all affairs. “We need to serve all citizens of this county, regardless of their political affiliations,” she stated, highlighting a commitment to include farmers, businesses, women, motorcyclists, youth, and students in their governance efforts.
Referencing the supportive roles of party officials and ministers, Morris acknowledged the contributions of various government officials and party members to this fundraising initiative. “This amount is not just a figure; it represents our determination to promote self-sufficiency and create market opportunities, especially for women,” she added.
The funds raised will be allocated for local development purposes, and Morris assured the attendees that they would be transparently accounted for. Mr. William Kortee, the former campaign manager for Bong County, has been appointed to oversee the opening of a party account for this purpose.
In a bid to further strengthen community involvement, Morris announced that a committee will be established to include diverse representations, encouraging attendees to submit information regarding educational support for those in need. Morris concluded her address by expressing gratitude to her colleagues and superiors for their unwavering support in the struggle for improved governance in Bong County.
Also speaking, Deputy Finance Minister Bill McGill Jones, appreciated the efforts, and promised the party officials commitment to continuing this initiative. He stated that the government might not be able to reach out to all Liberians who elected the Unity Party; as such, the need for appointed officials from the county to buttress government efforts cannot be overlooked.
The party officials promised Bongese that with their collective efforts, they are hopeful of generating not less than one million Liberian Dollars (1000,000.00) monthly, thus encouraging all partisans to support this initiative.
At the end of the pronouncement, partisans, including youth, women, and allied party representatives, expressed excitement in their executives, calling on them to prioritize all sectors of the government in the county. They also promised to utilize any funding allocated to their separate groupings.
