Monrovia – In a major boost to national safety and security, the Governments of the United States and Liberia have successfully disposed of more than 75 unexploded ordnances (UXO) dating back to Liberia’s civil war era.
The high-impact operation was carried out on July 23 at the Edward Binyah Kesselly Barracks, eliminating what officials described as a long-standing threat to public safety. The exercise was jointly coordinated by the U.S. Embassy near Monrovia, the Armed Forces of Liberia (AFL), Golden West Humanitarian Foundation, and Bea Mountain Mining Company, with funding from the U.S. Department of State’s Bureau of Political-Military Affairs.
Authorities say the disposal demonstrates Liberia’s unwavering commitment to safeguarding its citizens while strengthening peace and security across the nation.
“This joint effort is a strong indication of our resolve to rid the country of dangerous remnants of war,” an official statement noted.
The operation reflects ongoing collaboration between the United States and Liberia in addressing security concerns and supporting post-war recovery initiatives.
