WASHINGTON, D.C. — The U.S. State Department has issued a global security alert urging Americans overseas to exercise heightened caution in the wake of escalating tensions in the Middle East.
This comes after the United States carried out military strikes targeting Iranian nuclear facilities over the weekend.
On Saturday night, President Donald Trump confirmed that the U.S. military launched airstrikes against three critical Iranian nuclear sites- Fordo, Natanz, and Isfahan.
The strikes reportedly involved 14 Massive Ordnance Penetrators, or MOPs, powerful “bunker-buster” bombs designed to penetrate hardened underground targets.
The U.S. strikes mark a significant escalation in a conflict that began earlier this month when Israel attacked Iranian military and nuclear facilities on June 13.
The regional conflict has since expanded, drawing in American forces and prompting global concerns over safety and security.
In response, the State Department released a Worldwide Caution alert on Sunday, advising U.S. citizens to remain vigilant when traveling internationally.
The alert cited travel disruptions and intermittent airspace closures across the Middle East, as well as the risk of anti-American demonstrations.
“There is the potential for demonstrations against U.S. citizens and interests abroad,” the alert stated.
The department emphasized the importance of reviewing up-to-date travel advisories and security updates on its official website before making any travel plans.
Americans abroad are also encouraged to register with the Smart Traveler Enrollment Program (STEP), which provides timely alerts and allows U.S. embassies to contact travelers in case of emergencies. STEP also offers email updates and supports communication with designated emergency contacts.
Guidance for Americans in Israel and the West Bank
The U.S. Embassy released additional guidance for citizens in Israel and the West Bank, including information on passport services, crossing points, and potential delays or cancellations in flights. Travelers were urged to depart the region as soon as possible.
“Take the first available option, even if it is not your first choice of destination,” the embassy advised, underlining the urgency of the situation.
As tensions continue to rise, the State Department’s latest warnings highlight growing concerns about the safety of Americans overseas amid a rapidly evolving conflict in the Middle East.
