Ugandan Government bans livestreaming of riots, unlawful parades, and violent incidents

By Archie Boan

Thursday, January 15, 2026, Ugandans are poised to decide President Yoweri Kaguta Museveni Tibuhaburwa’s fate after four decades in power since he assumed Uganda’s highest seat on January 29, 1986 through his National Resistance Movement (NRM).

Ahead of Thursday’s polls, the Government has banned the livestreaming of riots, unlawful rallies, and violent incidents as it plans to shut down the internet.

Museveni’s main challenger Robert Kyagulanyi Ssentamu alias Bobi Wine of the National Unity Party (NUP) continues to accuse State security of widespread intimidation, brutality, and harassment as portrayled in multiple online video footage.

More details on this development to follow.
