UL Suspends Lecturer Accused of Committing Armed Robbery

“For Immediate Release

Monrovia, August 13, 2025 – The Administration of the University of Liberia (UL) strongly condemns a reported act of armed robbery allegedly carried out by one of its employees, Mr. Fobay E. Johnson, who serves as an administrative assistant in the College of Health Sciences.

Further, Mr. Johnson is hereby suspended, with immediate effect, without pay and benefits, pending the outcome of the criminal proceedings. Depending on the outcome of the criminal process, the University will take additional measures consistent with its Human Resource Manual and other University’s policies.

The UL Administration is deeply concerned as Mr. Johnson’s alleged conduct violates the University’s zero-tolerance policy against all forms of human violence against the person.

Accordingly, Mr. Johnson is accused of storming into a private banking office at Ecobank, and a police video footage shows the alleged armed robber pointing what appears to be a shotgun at a woman while attempting to duct tape her mouth. Following an investigation, police in Monrovia charged Mr. Johnson with the crimes of armed robbery, criminal attempt to commit murder, and possession and sale of physical objects for lethal use.

The UL Administration strongly frowns on this action and considers it a gross violation and affront to the values and policies expected of its employees. Therefore, We caution all faculty, staff, and students to guide against any or all forms of unlawful acts that could cause violent harm to others and jeopardize the image of the university and bring it to public ridicule.

At the same time, the UL Administration assures the general public of its commitment to uphold the mission and vision of the University of Liberia.

Signed.

Cllr. Norris L. Tweah

Vice President for University Relations”
