UL, UNDP Sign Landmark Agreement to Launch Master’s Program in Artificial Intelligence

The University of Liberia (UL) and the United Nations Development Programme (UNDP) have signed a landmark agreement to introduce a Master’s degree program in Artificial Intelligence and establish an Innovation Hub at the UL Fendall Campus.

The partnership, sealed through a Standard Letter of Agreement (SLA), marks a major step in advancing innovation, research, and digital development in Liberia.

According to the agreement, the AI Master’s program will equip students with advanced technological skills while the Innovation Hub will expand on UL’s existing UNIPOD initiative, creating a vibrant space for research, creativity, and entrepreneurship.

The initiative also includes the launch of the 2025 Holiday Tech Camp, aimed at inspiring and mentoring young Liberians interested in technology. Future tech camps are planned to ensure continuity and sustained impact.

As part of the five-year Strategic Plan, UL and UNDP will conduct a comprehensive capacity enhancement needs assessment to strengthen the university’s faculty and students in research, policy analysis, and innovation.

UL President, Dr. Layli Maparyan, praised the initiative, describing it as a turning point for the institution. “This collaboration opens a new chapter for innovation and engagement at the University of Liberia. I want to thank UNDP for its commitment and for seeing this vision through,” she said.

UNDP Resident Representative, Mr. Aliou Mamadou Dia, underscored the broader national significance of the partnership. “We are confident this initiative will make a significant impact not only for the University of Liberia but for the country as a whole,” he noted.

Also speaking at the signing ceremony, Mrs. Weade Kobah Boley, UL’s Vice President for Institutional Development, reaffirmed the university’s commitment. “We will make this dream a reality,” she said.

Mr. Stanley Kamara, UNDP Team Leader for Inclusive Governance and Public Institutions, also attended the ceremony.

Observers say the agreement is not only a boost for higher education but also a strategic investment in Liberia’s digital future, positioning to compete in the global technology landscape.
