The Liberia Medical and Dental Council (LMDC) has shut down three clinics operated by Golden Veroleum Liberia (GVL) in Sinoe County, citing multiple violations of national healthcare standards.
According to a statement issued by the LMDC, the affected clinics ~ located in Butaw, Tarjouwon, and Kpanyan Districts ~ were found to be severely understaffed and operating under substandard conditions. The council highlighted that the buildings housing the clinics failed to meet basic medical infrastructure requirements.
Inspections further revealed unhygienic conditions, poor sanitation practices, and an absence of a proper waste management system. The LMDC described the facilities as neither clean nor safe, posing serious health risks to both patients and medical personnel.
“The continued operation of these clinics in such poor condition is unacceptable,” the LMDC said. “GVL has shown blatant disregard for previous instructions issued by this body.”
In response to these findings, the council has levied a fine of $15,000 USD per clinic against GVL. The LMDC also issued a stern warning to healthcare workers, stating that any staff found operating in the closed clinics as of June 17, 2025, will face legal action.
The regulatory body urged all medical institutions across the country to uphold national standards and prioritize the safety and well-being of patients.
Meanwhile, Golden Veroleum Liberia has indicated it will issue a response to the council’s decision in due course.
The LMDC’s action underscores ongoing efforts to improve healthcare delivery and ensure regulatory compliance in Liberia’s medical sector.
Golden Veroleum has been operating in Liberia since 2010. Their concession is expected to expire in 2075.
