University of Liberia Begins Graduate School Building Repainting Project to Advance Infrastructure Beautification

By Archie Ayouba Boan

Monrovia, Liberia — The University of Liberia (UL) has launched a major exterior repainting project on its Graduate School building as part of the University’s ongoing commitment to improving campus infrastructure and enhancing the physical appearance of its facilities.

The initiative aligns with UL’s Strategic Objective 1.5: Infrastructure Renovation, Beautification, and New Construction, which prioritizes the rehabilitation and modernization of university buildings while promoting a cleaner and more welcoming campus environment.

For many years, the Graduate School building had become visibly deteriorated, with mold-stained and weathered exterior walls that had drawn concern from students, faculty, and visitors. University officials noted that the building’s condition had long undermined the image of UL as Liberia’s flagship public university. The repainting project is therefore aimed at restoring the structure’s appearance and reinforcing the institution’s reputation for academic excellence.

Work on the project began with the cleaning of the building’s exterior and the application of a white primer coat to prepare the surface for the final colors. The project has since progressed to the application of the building’s new yellow and red exterior paint, giving the facility a brighter and more vibrant look.

The transformation of the building has been documented through photographs showing the gradual change—from the previously stained and weathered exterior, to the clean white primer stage, and now to the newly finished colorful design.

University officials commended the dedicated team of workers carrying out the repainting, noting that their efforts are playing a critical role in improving the campus landscape. The project is being supervised by Sehmah R. Jallah, Interm Vice President for Administration and Jeff Walker, Director of the Physical Operations Department (POD), who are overseeing the implementation of the initiative.

Although the current work focuses on restoring the building’s exterior, university authorities say additional improvements may be considered in the future as part of broader infrastructure development plans.

The University also expressed profound appreciation to the Government of Liberia, including the Liberian Legislature, the Ministry of Finance and Development Planning, and H. E. President Joseph Nyuma Boakai, Sr., for allocating US$6 million in infrastructure funding to UL for Fiscal Year 2026. University officials say the funding will support several infrastructure improvements across the institution.

Staff members working in the Graduate School building have welcomed the repainting project, describing it as a significant morale boost and an important step toward restoring pride in the university’s facilities. According to Jonathan Taylor, Vice President for Graduate Studies, the transformation represents a renewed commitment to providing an environment that reflects the dignity and mission of the University.

The repainting project forms part of a broader effort by the University of Liberia to upgrade its campuses, strengthen institutional pride, and present a physical environment that matches its role as the nation’s leading institution of higher learning.
