Monrovia, Liberia ~ The Board of Trustees of the University of Liberia has issued an appeal to faculty members currently engaged in a go-slow action, urging them to return to their classrooms as the university works to resolve ongoing concerns related to salaries and welfare.
The industrial action, which has disrupted academic activities at the state-run institution, stems from long-standing grievances over delayed payments and unsatisfactory working conditions.
In a statement released on Monday, the Board acknowledged the legitimacy of the faculty’s concerns and assured that steps are being taken in coordination with relevant government authorities to address the issues.
“We recognize the challenges faced by our dedicated faculty members and are committed to finding a timely and sustainable resolution,” the statement read. “We therefore call on all faculty to resume classes in the interest of the students and the academic integrity of the University of Liberia.”
The university has not announced a specific timeline for resolving the matters, but sources say discussions are ongoing with the Ministries of Finance and Education to secure the necessary support.
Students, many of whom have expressed frustration over the repeated disruptions to their education, are closely watching developments, hoping for a swift end to the standoff.
